#74. When The Muse Arrives.

It has long been regarded as the energy of the artisan. That if you wait, your muse will arrive, and inspiration will follow. For many they won’t regard themselves as creative let alone an artisan, so how do you summon your muse?

As we get older, we tend to change our perspective on things. We chase less and we seek more.

One can only assume that the impending reality of our mortality is a catalyst for asking, what is it that means most to me and how do I spend more time doing it?

But why wait?

Why live 50 years of your life on a path of expectation – the expectations of others. Our background, our parents, society, all creating a set of rules and paradigms we believe we should follow.

If we are to find happiness and meaning today – how do, we summon ‘the’ muse’?

In my mind the ‘muse’ is a subtle combination of energy and purpose - energy into something that brings joy/fulfilment and purpose, our contribution to humanity.

When an artist finds that spark of energy they find a reason to create a piece that tells a story and in that story there is connection. To loved ones, an audience or to an outcome that may previously have not been pre-defined.

We want our children to be happy, which is more important that then being successful. Because we know that success is full of traps.

But happiness, well that comes in many forms, small wins like a smile or a thank you, to a months or years long pursuit that comes to fruition.

No loved one ever said - they were so successful I loved them more. They will remember your smile, you hugs and your impact. That’s true success.

When we lead alone and own businesses we get trapped by paradigms of the way things are ‘supposed’ to be done.

But I say do it differently.

Be your own muse.

Make your own energy.

Create your own rules.

Be whatever you are supposed to be unapologetically!

Until next week, don’t wait for the muse, become it.
